Joshua Adam is a 42-year-old police officer who has worked in the field for 13 years. He started out as a patrol officer but now works in the Mayor’s office of his home city. He shared valuable insights and resources for the evaluation methods used to be accepted into the police force. Testing to be admitted into the police force includes a preliminary application, written examination, oral interview, physical agility test, polygraph examination, background investigation, medical examination, psychological examination, drug screening, and board approvals. Once the above testing has been passed, the recruit officer will enter the Law Enforcement Training Academy. For our research, we gathered the physical agility testing requirements from the initial screening and Law Enforcement Training Academy for Indianapolis. The below resources were gleaned from the interview and resources shared and variations will be implemented into our search and rescue platform.

Physical agility test (screening requirements)
Physical agility testing (IMPD Law Enforcement Training Academy)
Physical agility testing is part of training at the academy. Law enforcement officers need to be ready for physically demanding tasks such as emergency runs, vehicle crashes, and de-escalating potentially violent situations. To prepare for these challenges, you will do the following:
Drive emergency vehicles
Practice handcuffing, baton, and weapon retention techniques
Qualify with both a handgun and shotgun
Run, jump, wrestle, and be thrown to the ground
Participate in water rescue activities
Role-play in a number of job-related scenarios which require strength, agility, and endurance. You must meet the initial entrance standard to remain at the academy. You must meet the graduation standard to complete the academy. The standards may change without notice.
