Usability Testing Feedback
Home Screen
Upcoming courses – it’s not clear if that is for me or just general courses, I’m interested in.
Education
I don’t like when there is a menu down the left and on top – not clear on the hierarchy
Left side menu is consistent but once you’re in Education how you further refine information is not consistent
Sometimes it’s a filter and sometimes it’s a button
Courses
Would like to see more filtering on who I’m sending this to
Not a very dense display – pictures take up too much room – it’s the labels that are giving you information – could show 8-10 courses easily
If I’m spending $100, I would like to see a demo
Some unnecessary level of filtering
1990s pre-determined criteria instead of just showing what you want by using the search bar
Search versus filter – confusing would think to search and then filter
Save to wish list
Confusing – don’t know what my learning is, and I don’t know why drone is in there
Opportunity for gamification around completion regardless of if you get an official certificate
Some users thought the Course Catalog menu has too much space taken up by the card system and that it does not provide the data they would like to see at a higher level
Learning Plan
Due dates – complete tag is a little confusing
Ability to rank or filter by due date would be helpful
Some users though the “Helicopter Operations” course is something that they were already signed up for and tried to hit the course on the learning plan to get to it instead of going to all courses catalog
Found it difficult to understand the flow of the learning plan and that the categories needed to be reorganized.
Calendar
I want to click on date and plus icon – color coding would also be nice
Natural inclination for multiple dates is to click and drag
Not particularly easy to use
Would assume I could click the box and not specifically the number
Confusing when I’m adding to my calendar which calendar this is going to
“Do I need another calendar in my life?”
Radar Chart
If you hold a certificate your skill would be at 8 level – not sure about skill (communication) versus something, you completed a certificate in (CPR)
Could refine categories – communication would fall under teamwork
Not familiar with it but intrigued by layout and what you might be able to do with it
Unclear how performance relates to training
Micromanaging people’s metrics is kind of not what people would want to happen -not a big fan
Typeface was too small
User on the older side were not that fond of the radar chart as to them it was something that they have not seen before and were not familiar with reading charts like that
User mentioned that they prefer things like bar charts
User on older side also mentioned that to them performance charts are not necessary as they figure everyone that is there on a mission is the best of the best and does not care if they are others that performed better but are not on the scene
User seemed more focused around this app being used on mission than as administrative in between missions
Skills Endorsement
Confusing because you have evaluation on Performance page but not an option to endorse skills
Would have like to add comments on why I’m endorsing this skill
Expiring Credentials
Confused about where to find this – went to education > certifications and then went to My Learning Plan
Seemed like their main draw for this was just to see expiring certifications and maybe licenses, other than that they did not see a major use case for marking other items as expiring
Add Certification
No obvious place to add certification – button needs to be more obvious – possibly need to reword to Upload
Some users have had a hard time seeing the “Add Certification” button on the Certifications page
Most users went to the education page to manage their certifications instead of going to their user profile or the “add item” feature next to the Upcoming Expirations box
Might be due to the lack of onboarding for this app atm, because if they were to create their profiles, they might better understand what exists there
Might be good to have it featured in both places though
Resource Library
Following a link outside of the platform might be challenging
Assumed I would be able to let my teammates know I added a resource
Assumed adding a resource would be on Education page
Refine to 3.5 stars is not easy to find or easy to understand – users went back into filters to find – having filters in two different places is confusing
How do I know if someone has already listed this resource?
The refinement of stars being on the right side seemed to trick up some users, as they thought it might be part of the filter system to begin with
Let the topic be approved or denied by the person most experienced in that topic
The level of review for the peer review system, that might be appropriate for the community would be pushed out to the team as an available resource
Directory
Would like to know if this is my assigned team or entire task force
Would like to be able to identify who is on my team
Scribe would not be necessarily a category – everyone would be able to handle that function
Ways to sort the team, but have it default too alphabetical
User Profile
Not clear what this is used for (social versus managerial)
If it’s for management of team, I want to see
Availability for call outs
Address
Constraints on things they can do or health risks
How long they’ve been on the team
Skills
Role on team
Previous missions
Past employments
Density – too much white space that could be used for information and remove scrolling
Give some form of service icon to show their availability and some form of wording to let the team know their outside of SAR work schedule (IE: 9-5 job)
Incident Commander Review Expiring Certs for Team
Thought it would be in the Education > Certifications
It seemed to be 50/50 on whether people access this through the Home Dashboard quick links versus going to either education or performance to try and find this data
Easy way to message the team to share events or a short text form to communicate with certain people
Additional Feedback
Not clear what the difference is between courses and resources – would like to just browse through all opportunities to see all content – remove the unnecessary hierarchal elements – maybe some type of labeling or color to show the difference between resources and courses
Keep this as straightforward and low friction as possible – not pushing the cognitive load – remove unnecessary hierarchy
Use common design motifs in a consistent way
Easy way to message the team to share events or a short text form to communicate with certain people on the platform.
